The Grand Duke Cosimo I of Medicis Family wanted the construction of Uffizi to host offices and statal archives and commissioned his architect of trust, the Vasari, the planning of an important building. Works started in 1560 and were completed by Achitect Buontalenti.

The successors of Cosimo I placed in the uffizi collections of rare and precious objects, particulalry Ferdinando II and his wife Vittoria della Rovere. When the Medici family became extinct, in 1737 the collections could be visited by all florentine people thanks to the “Family Pact”.

The Grand Dukes of Lorena accepted the “pact” and managed to increase the collections of works during 1700 and 1800. After Unity of Italy(1865), the Uffizi became one of the most important museums of the world.

The central nucleus of its works is represented by the florentine painters, even if there are also works of flemish artists and of Veneto; Michelangelo with “Tondo Doni”, Sandro Botticelli with “the Spring” and “the Birth of Venus”, Leonardo Da Vinci with “the Annunciation”.

The Uffizi Gallery is a place of spirit and of creative art, where the florentine and universal genius is exalted.
